Best Coffee of 2015 so far!


Yes.  I said it.  And I am fairly reserved when it comes to coffee from Rwanda.  Reserved as in, I take the middle path.  I am expected to be pleased but not blown away.  As most of you know, I am obsessed with coffee.  What some of you may not know, is that if I had to chose a dessert, I always (yes, always) go for the vanilla over the chocolate.  This lot we got in has INTENSE vanilla aromatics and flavor notes!  The aromatic compound vanilla tends to fix and intensify other aromatic compounds in the cup and brings with it a whole lot of body.  I mean- complete creamy goodness.  Get some while we have it!

This coffee comes from "Gitesi", a private washing station located in the Kibuye valley near Lake Kivu. The station is clean and well-organized, and we're consistently impressed with the preparation of their coffee year after year. The station was started 10 years ago and is now serving nearly 2000 farmers in the surrounding highlands. Altitude at Gitesi proper is 1740 meters, and some of the farmers have coffee planted up on 2000 meter ridges. They remain committed to lot separation and we built this particular lot by vetting samples from the main harvest. This is competition-level coffee all the way, evening winning COE a few years back.
